About Augustine Strings Since 1947, Albert Augustine Ltd. has produced the highest quality nylon guitar strings available. In fact, Albert Augustine was the first company to produce strings of this kind. Since then, Albert Augustine has established itself as a major factor in the classical guitar field worldwide.

Here are three reasons why Augustines are the world's best-selling classical guitar strings:

I. Augustine Classic Strings.
These are the original Augustine guitar strings, an intrinsic part of the classical guitar revolution this century.

Albert Augustine, an instrument maker, found himself pressured by none other than Andrés Segovia to manufacture and sell nylon guitar strings. He did so, insuring the rise of a new generation of concert players and lending his own part to the cultivation and completion of the famous Segovia sound.

Augustine Classic Strings are available with Blue, Red, Black or Gold basses. (For a more complete description of our bass and treble strings see our article "String Tension.")

Augustines Classic Strings are a light-gauge treble string.

II. Augustine Imperial Strings.
Much like our Regal line, the Imperial treble strings are composed of a new and unique polymer. These strings are a lighter gauge than the Regal, for those who prefer easier action.

Imperial strings are available with Blue, Red, Black or Gold basses.

Imperial strings are a medium-gauge treble string,

III. Augustine Regal Strings.
A major accomplishment in the science of sound.

The Regal guitar strings are composed of a new and unique polymer, one which guarantees brilliant, projecting sound and clear bell-like tones. No matter what instrument or style of music you play, you will find that Regals will complement it.

Regals are available with Blue, Red, Black or Gold basses.

Regals are a heavy-gauge treble string.

THERE ARE THREE DIFFERENT TYPES OF AUGUSTINE TREBLE STRINGS.

  • Augustine Classic Trebles (the original nylon string).
  • Augustine Regal Trebles.
  • Augustine Imperial Trebles.

Each of the above nylon strings has a different quality of sound. Generally speaking, although we don't designate tension to our strings, the Classic Treble nylon is the least tense string. Imperial trebles are next, followed by the Regal trebles, which are the most tense. Please keep in mind, however, that each string, regardless of "tension," will sound different depending on the type of instrument you are using. Each of these nylon strings are available in combination with our Blue, Red, Black and Gold bass strings, which are described below.

THERE ARE FOUR DIFFERENT TYPES OF AUGUSTINE BASS STRINGS.

BLUE BASSES. The Augustine Blue bass strings are our thickest copper wound bass strings. These strings are available in the following sets:

  • Augustine Classic Blue sets (Blue basses with Classic trebles).
  • Augustine Regal Blue sets (Blue basses with Regal trebles).
  • Augustine Imperial Blue sets (Blue basses with Imperial trebles).

RED BASSES. Also copper wound, the Augustine Red bass strings are wound with a slightly lighter gauge of copper. Augustine Red basses are available in the following sets:

  • Augustine Red Classic sets (Red basses with Classic trebles).
  • Augustine Regal Red sets (Red basses with Regal trebles).
  • Augustine Imperial Red sets (Red basses with Imperial trebles).

BLACK BASSES. These are our lightest copper wound strings. They are available in the following sets:

  • Augustine Black Classic sets (Black basses with Classic trebles).
  • Augustine Regal Black sets (Black basses with Regal trebles).
  • Augustine Imperial Black sets (Black basses with Imperial trebles).

GOLD BASSES. Made with Classic nylon and gold plated, these strings, while not specifically designed for flamenco, are the preferred choice of strings by flamenco players everywhere. These strings are available in the following sets:

  • Augustine Gold Classic sets (Gold basses with Classic trebles).
  • Augustine Regal Gold sets (Gold basses with Regal trebles).
  • Augustine Imperial Gold sets (Gold basses with Imperial trebles).

AUGUSTINE STRINGS are designed to give you endless possibilities that will best suit your particular needs. For instance, if your guitar has strong bass response, you may want to try our Regal Red or Regal Black sets. The tighter tension of the Regal trebles along with either Red or Black basses will enable you to produce a well-balanced and more consistent sound. On the other hand, if your instrument has a particularly strong treble response, your best bet is a set of Augustine Imperial Blue strings. Here you will get the benefit of our robust and powerful Blue bass string along with the less tense, yet beautiful and lyrical Imperials treble string. Once again, we would like to point out that we do not designate tensions for our strings. The best way for you to decide which of our products will sound best on your guitar is simple: try them all and let your ears be the judge.
